General Ophthalmology Sevices  The ophthalmology department offered general services such as cataract surgery using the phacoemulsification technique,  minor surgeries for pterygiums, lumps, and bumps removal. General glaucoma services are offered using Humphrey Visual Field Analyzer (HVF) and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT). While lasers are done using Laser Pan-retinal Photocoagulation (PRP), Nd:Yag Iridotomy, and Capsulotomy.    Medical Retina Subspecialty  The Ophthalmology Department also offers subspecialty services in the Medical Retina field. It encompasses treatment for Diabetic Macular Oedema (DME) and Age-Related Macular Degenerations using diagnostic instruments such as Optical Coherence Tomography and Angiography (OCTA), Fundus Fluorescein Angiography (FFA) and Fundus Photography.

Services offered by Optometry Clinic.  Optometry Clinic services are also offered in the Department of Ophthalmology HSAAS. These are the listed services :    i) Amblyopia & Binocular Vision Clinic Amblyopia is commonly known as lazy eyes. Amblyopia happens when children fail to develop normal vision whereby blurring of vision cannot be corrected by using spectacle, contact lens, or surgery. Therefore, eye examination as early as 6 months old is crucial for early detection to treat amblyopia. Binocular Vision Clinic specialized in the assessment to individuals with complaints of eye strain, double vision, or squint. Appropriate therapy or a prism lens will be prescribed if necessary.

ii) Contact Lens Clinic Comprehensive eye examination before contact lens wearing is important to evaluate eye health and suitable contact lens parameter for each individual. Contact Lens Clinic offers to fit soft contact lens, hard contact lens (RGP) & Orthokeratology (Ortho-K). Hard contact lens or also known as Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP) is a healthier choice for contact lens wearer. RGP lens has a smaller diameter and their material allows more oxygen to enter the cornea thus reduce the symptoms of dryness & also reduce the risk of eye infections.  Orthokeratology (Ortho-K) is proven as an effective method to control the progression of childhood myopia (short-sightedness) & to be worn while the patient is sleeping. Adults also can wear Ortho-K as an alternative to spectacle wear.

iii) Low Vision Clinic Low Vision Clinic offers comprehensive eye assessment and prescriptions of low vision devices such as hand-held magnifiers or telescope for visually impaired patients. Patients will also be referred to other organizations such as Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat (JKM) or a special school if needed.
