Caregiver Training Program 2025

HSAAS, 10 July – The Department of Nursing Management, Hospital Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah (HSAAS), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), organised the Caregiver Training Program 2025 as an initiative to empower caregivers in the community with fundamental skills for safe, effective, and ethical patient care.

This simulation-based program, organised by the Department of Nursing Management, HSAAS UPM, is an initiative by the Head of Department, Puan Azliza Rahim, aimed at family caregivers, the public, and healthcare personnel. A total of 101 participants from various districts and states took part in the program, which provided practical exposure to patient care at home and in healthcare facilities.

According to the Program Director, Puan Ismayanti Ismail, the approach through 10 interactive simulation stations provided participants with hands-on experience in proper and safe patient care. The simulations covered key aspects such as personal hygiene, incontinence management, patient transfer, end-of-life care, prayer exemptions (rukhsah solat), and wound care. The program also introduced the World Café learning concept, allowing participants to engage in casual discussions with experts such as Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hakimah Mohammad Sallehuddin (Geriatrician), Dr. Noraida Omar (Dietitian), and Puan Nasiha Sufina Ramzuzzaman (Pharmacist).

Strategic collaboration with industry also added value to the program through the participation of Best Contact (M) Sdn Bhd in the Home Fall Prevention Station, which introduced the latest assistive devices and safe care methods for the elderly at home.

One of the engaging activities was the “Stress Ball Challenges”, which aimed to raise awareness among participants about the importance of mental health and stress management among caregivers—reflecting their crucial role as the backbone of quality patient care. The organisation of this program highlights HSAAS UPM’s commitment to empowering the community through an inclusive, practical, and high-impact approach towards more holistic patient care.
