PUTRA INTEGRATED CLINICAL RESEARCH UNIT (PUTRA-iCRU)

INTRODUCTION

Putra Integrated CRU (Putra-iCRU) is a department under Hospital Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah (HSAAS). CRU is a specialized department that manages clinical research conducted at HSAAS; which involves patient-centered and lab-based investigations.

To be an internationally renowned Clinical Research Institution.

MISSION

To improve the quality of clinical research.

To improve patients’ health outcomes through ethical and quality clinical research.

To develop and foster good networks and linkages in clinical research.

SERVICES

Research Development and Management

To give support and help in research activities either Investigator Initiated Research (IIR) or Investigator Sponsored Research (ISR).

To assist in grant applications for research done in HSAAS.

To assist in research registration, ethics approval and assist in approval for publication.

To assist in grant and research monitoring in terms of progress and financial expenditure.

To assist in publication of research findings in good impact journals.

Research Consultation Clinic

To help those who are interested in doing research such as health care professionals and postgraduate students in identifying potential areas of research and proposal preparation

Training Development

To coordinate training involving research in HSAAS.

To conduct workshops such as Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Good Research Practice (GRP), Continuous Professionals Development (CPD) and Continuing Medical Education (CME).

Centre for Clinical Trial

To conduct clinical trials for Phase 2 & 3

To establish clinical trials for Phase 1

Networking Establishment

To establish and facilitate networking and collaboration within the faculty, university, as well as with other government and non-government organizations and international organizations.

The Putra Integrated Clinical Research Unit (Putra-iCRU) at Hospital Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah (HSAAS), Universiti Putra Malaysia, is a well-established “one-stop” center designed to support the seamless execution of safe, credible, and high-quality clinical research and trials. With a focus on clinical trials, research services, and specialized training, Putra-iCRU offers a robust infrastructure and expert support for international and national pharmaceutical companies, biotechnology firms, Contract Research Organizations (CROs), and non-profit organizations.

As a key point of access, Putra-iCRU connects sponsors with an integrated network of experienced clinical investigators, ensuring efficient collaboration and access to a large pool of research participants, including healthy volunteers. The Putra-iCRU provide experts and research expertise in areas such as Neurology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Geriatrics, Hematology, Nephrology, Respiratory Medicine, Psychiatry, Family Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Pediatrics, Orthopedics, Surgery, Urology, Anesthesiology, Otorhinolaryngology (ENT), Ophthalmology, Rehabilitation Medicine.

The Putra-iCRU is equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure to conduct clinical trials that adhere to international standards in design, execution, and reporting. It also serves as a liaison to the Medical Ethics Committee and offers access to other essential clinical services such as radiography, laboratory testing, and pharmacy. In addition to its research capabilities, the Putra-iCRU actively organizes engaging and informative workshops and training sessions related to clinical trials, further enriching the clinical research landscape.
