HSAAS, 7, August 2023 - The Workshop on Patient Safety: A Step Towards Quality Care, held at Hospital Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah- UPM, concluded successfully, bringing together healthcare professionals and staff from various units and departments. The workshop, which took place on August 7, 2023, aimed to raise awareness about the importance of patient safety and promote a culture of safety in HSAAS.

With a total of 60 participants, including doctors, nurses, administrators, and paramedics, the workshop focused on various key topics. The event commenced with an informative lecture on the significance of patient safety and its impact on healthcare outcomes by En. Mohamad Hafiz Rosli and Dr. Nor Eliani Ezani. Participants gained insights into strategies for creating a culture of safety within hospitals, ensuring the well-being of patients.

The workshop also emphasized the critical role of clear communication in providing better care. HSAAS professionals were equipped with effective communication techniques to enhance patient care and prevent medical errors. Participants actively engaged in discussions, sharing their experiences and challenges related to communication in the healthcare setting.

One of the highlights of the workshop was the session on incident reporting by Dr Juhaida Daud (Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia), where participants learned about its importance in identifying and addressing safety concerns. The workshop shed light on the differences in incident reporting culture and provided practical guidance on effective incident reporting practices.

Furthermore, participants were introduced to the Malaysian Patient Safety Goals 2.0 by Dr. Saa’ri Mohamad Yatim (Hospital Sultan Idris Shah), which aim to build a foundation for a safer healthcare system. The goals were discussed in detail, providing healthcare professionals with essential knowledge on their implementation and impact.

The workshop concluded with a hands-on guide to effective incident reporting, encouraging participants to speak up for safety. The interactive nature of the workshop facilitated networking and collaboration among participants, fostering a collective commitment towards patient safety.
