DEPARTMENT OF REHABILITATION MEDICINE

         

Rehabilitation Medicine is a branch of medicine that emphasizes on the importance of client-centered services. At HSAAS, the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine consists of four (4) units:

1. Clinical Rehabilitation Medicine Unit
2. Occupational Therapy Unit   
3. Physiotherapy Unit       
4. Speech Therapy Unit

The field of rehabilitation medicine is now very much in demand in health services/sector around the world. Recent advances in medicine have led to a high survival rate that enable patients to live longer, despite suffering from chronic illnesses or impaired functional status. However, this has had a significant impact on whether or not it directly involves high cost of care, low productivity and impaired quality of life. As such, rehabilitation medicine is a service that can reduce economic pressures, improve the quality of life and function of affected individuals. 

The field of rehabilitation medicine provides holistic services through assessment, diagnosis, prevention, rehabilitation treatment including clinical intervention, integration into the patient's environment (i.e. home, school, work, community) and ongoing follow-up assessment.
